The Cap Collector Cap
by Victor van Gorkom
#No CaP Collector Cap in your envelope# a well known sentence I wrote a few times in the magazine. Now I write; #a miss print of the CaP Collector Cap in your envelope#. What happened, what went wrong?
If you asked a factory manager what can go wrong with producing a crown cap, his answer will be; everything. Making a bottle cap is not an easy process.
If you don't collect miss-print's throw your CaP Collector Cap in your trashcan with respect, because Sergey Tenenbaum and Yuri Groshev did very their best.
In Moscow you#ll find small and big crown cap factories. Factories who have full production and factories who only make plates or only press the bottle caps. There are also offices who only buy crown caps from the factories and distribute them to others. Those offices can have their own factory sign on the skirt! Moscow's professionals call it the #trade mark# on the #the tooth#.
A other Russian factory did made 5 plates of the CaP Collector Cap. 1 plate is good for 270 caps. For themselves they make much bigger plates. This is necessary because their pressing machines are pressing 24 hours each day. They have a very closed scheme and can not stop a pressing machine for putting in other plates.
In the factory, three employees of the factory did welcome us. The boss of the #plate-factory#, who was with us, delivered them the five plates. Inside the factory nothing has ever changed the last 20 years. Two old machines were filling the space. The liner machine was using the inside plastic that can be found on old DDR caps. Proudly they showed us their handmade counting machine. Already after ten minutes I understood that something was wrong with the plates, and that it was not possible to make normal caps out of it. This was a big disappointment for us and no one could help it.
The discussion about the plates and what to do now, was heated. It was not necessary for Sergey and Yuri to translate the discussion for me, be course I already understood that the cap adventure was a disaster. I did not feel comfortable be course they were talking terribly loud. I thought that they had a quarrel but it was a normal Russian discussion, Sergey told me.
What to do next? There were five plates. You would not say it but I am not from an other planet. I do not like 1350 of the same misprints! ( 5 plates x 270 caps ).
One plate went back to the factory for showing the workers their mistake. On plate I kept as a souvenir for my bottle cap room. One plate got in the machine and the other on I turned. That#s why there are two different misprints of the CaP Collector Cap in you envelope. You see them also on the Front-page.
The last plate got upside-down in the machine. An inside cap is the result. Of course I send the inside misprint to those who want to have it. |
